March 2010 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
By now you should have received your copy of our Ofsted report. We are all very pleased that it went so well and it shows how much we have improved since our last inspection in 2006. There is always more that we can do and we will be using the feedback from the inspectors to make sure that we have more aspects of outstanding practice in place by the time they come to see us again. The children, as always, were the best ambassadors for our school and we were so proud of the way they spoke and interacted with the inspectors in such a mature way. Thank you also to everyone who took the time to respond to the parent questionnaire. The inspectors welcomed your feedback and it was an important element in the overall good grade that we received.
It was lovely to see so many parents at the open evening just before half term. It was a very successful evening with the SATs meeting being very well attended.
We have been awarded a certificate indicating that we have achieved the first stage of the International Schools Award. This recognises the integration of many multicultural activities into the school curriculum. We are already working on the Intermediate Stage.
The PTA Valentine bear raffle was very successful and we are pleased to say that they have all gone to very good homes. We will update you as to how much this event raised in the next newsletter.
The PTA are now planning to hold a ladies pamper evening at the end of this term. Tickets will be sold in the school playground after school as advertised but can also be ordered using the tear off slip on their PTA letter and tickets can then be collected on the door. The ladies of the PTA are working very hard to make it a relaxing and enjoyable evening and hope that as many mums, nans & aunties as possible will be able to attend. There are a wide variety of stalls planned.
There will also be the opportunity for the grandparents of Year 1 children to come into school on 25th March at 1.30. They are invited to attend a special assembly and then go into the classrooms and work with their grandchildren and meet their class teacher.
Easter will soon be here and we will be inviting the children to take part in one of our traditional competitions, making an Easter bonnet or an Easter garden or decorating a hard boiled egg. The teachers from each year group judge the competitions and they are looking for entries that are made by the children with the least amount of adult help. The entries make a lovely display in the school hall and we are looking forward to seeing them come into school during the last week of term. Staff will also be donating Easter eggs for the children’s raffle.
Mrs Davey is organising science week this term and the children will have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities including food tasting with Claire Sainsbury, our school nurse and enjoy a visit from the London Science Museum. The theme for their workshop is “What on earth?”
World Book Day takes place this half term and to celebrate we will be having the Scholastic book fair in school. All the children will be given a £1 book token which we hope they will come and spend with us while the book fair is open in the school hall.
The Rainbow club, our after school club, is becoming increasingly popular and well used. However, Mrs Twaites has vacancies for April. Please contact the school office if you are interested in applying for a place.
This is a very busy half term with the children having the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of activities & workshops. Do look at the diary dates on the back of this newsletter so that you are aware of the activities planned.
Please remember that if you are concerned or worried about anything to do with school you can contact the class teacher after school or Mrs James our home/school liaison TA on her private number 01992 718297.
With best wishes to you all
Mrs. Mooney and all the staff
