June 2010 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Well done to all of the Year 2 pupils who have completed the SATs very confidently this year. Thank you for making sure that pupils were in school and on time in order that the tests were completed as easily as possible.

The children have been collecting Tesco & Sainsburys? vouchers over the past half term but these promotions will shortly be coming to an end. Over the half term holiday it would be of great benefit to the school if you could collect any spare vouchers that friends or relations may have and send them into school with your children on the first day back after half term.

There are lots of exciting activities and days out taking place in school in June. To coincide with the start of the World Cup we are launching our International week where each class will be working on life in one particular competing country. On Friday 18th June the children will be invited to wear the colours of their particular country instead of school uniform e.g. the class studying England would be asked to wear red & white.

We will also have Arts week, where each pupil will have a professionally framed picture on show as part of an exhibition in the hall. You will be allowed to purchase this at a cost of £ 6.50. ?My Money? week will be an opportunity for the children to do lots of practical problem solving activities to do with coins & shopping.

Just a reminder that Mr. Bounce, our sponsored event, organised by the PTA will be taking place on June 15th. This is the proposed timetable when you are invited to come and watch your child bounce and raise money for the school.

We all enjoyed the lovely sunny weather over the last weekend that continued into this week. However, we were concerned that several pupils still came into school without hats and of those who had hats, many were unnamed. Therefore a large number are now in the lost property box. Also, we would like to suggest that it is now possible to buy sunscreen for children that offers 12 hour protection.

It has been brought to our attention that at least one parent is putting soiled nappies into the outside litter bin in the playground. Can we please ask that you take dirty nappies home with you. It is not hygienic for these to be left where pupils can find them at playtime or inadvertently touch them. If you see this being done please inform the office staff.

The workshops that were organised by Mrs James for parents during this year have been very successful and we have already booked a literacy, numeracy & first aid course for our parents to attend over the coming year. We will send out further details in September.

There has been a noticeable increase in the number of pupils who are being picked up late at the end of the school day. All children should be collected from the classroom door at 3.00 unless they are attending an after school club. They will remain in the classroom until 3.15 before being brought to the office, when parents will be phoned. If you know that for some reason you are going to be late please notify the school. If someone different is going to collect your child, who is not on the admission list, please make sure that you inform the teacher and/or the school office. Children can find it very upsetting to be left in the classroom when everyone else has gone home so please do collect your child promptly.

This is a very busy half term so please look at the diary dates on the back of this newsletter in order that you can arrange to attend the wide variety of activities that the pupils are taking part in.

We look forward to seeing you all at as many of them as possible.
Mrs. Mooney and all the staff
