February 2010 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
Thank you everyone for your help during the difficult weather conditions that we endured at the beginning of the term. We were very pleased at how well everyone coped and that we were able to remain open throughout this cold period. Hopefully February will bring with it some improvement in the weather for us all.
In last month’s newsletter we explained the criteria that would qualify families for free school meals and we are very pleased that some new families are benefitting from this advice.
However we are concerned that some parents who are already in receipt of free school meals do not reapply in time for their renewal. You will receive reminders from the Local Authority and from the school in plenty of time before the previous application runs out. Mrs James will also be asked to contact you 2 weeks before the expiry date of your free school meals so that she can help with the paperwork if necessary. However, if you don’t apply in time, you will be expected to pay for any school meals that your child has after the date has passed or alternatively you can provide him/her with a packed lunch.
It is almost half term and Mrs Twaites and her team of ladies would like to remind you that there are still places available in the Rainbow Club at half term. They are open from Monday to Friday & on the INSET day from 8.00-6.00. The cost is £ 25.00 per session & £22.00 for siblings. Half days are available from 8.00a.m. - 1.00p.m. & 1.00p.m. - 6.00p.m. at a cost of £15 per session & £13.00 for siblings. Please contact the school office if you would like to apply for a place.
The PTA is very busy organising the Ladies Pamper Night and have a wide variety of interesting stalls and ideas planned for you to enjoy. They would appreciate any help that you can offer or any suitable raffle prizes that you may have to donate. The ladies can be contacted via the school office.
The cake stall in January raised over £90 which was an excellent start to the term.
Please remember to take the opportunity to have a look at the “Every Child Matters” notice board when you come to open evening and check up on the new things that have been put in place since September as proposed in our 2009-2010 school development plan. We are half way through the school year and we are evaluating the plan to see what we have achieved and what we still have to do before July.
We will shortly be sending out questionnaires to parents asking for feedback in preparation for the new school development plan for 2010-2011. If you have any ideas about things you would like to see improved or new ideas for us to consider don’t forget that there is a suggestions box in the entrance hall. If you put your name & contact details with your suggestion we will reply to you.
If your child is in Year 2 do come along to the SATs meeting in the hall at 6.00p.m. on 11th February. We will give you ideas as to how you can help and support your child at home at this important time. There will also be SATs revision books on sale @2 for £5.
Please remember that your child must have a PE kit in school at all times which includes a leotard or T-shirt & shorts and a pair of plimsolls. The children will bring their PE bags home with them at half term for you to check the contents and make sure that all items are named. In addition, please remember that children should not wear earrings on P.E. days. On other days children are allowed to wear studs only. No other jewellery should be worn in school at any time.
The school website is constantly being updated and a lot of new pupil work has recently been added so do take the opportunity to have a look at it. The address is whxis.co.uk.
Also, remember that Mrs James is always happy to help with any problems you may have and will signpost you to someone who could help if she is unable to do so. She has her own phone with an answerphone facility and can be contacted on 01992 718297.
With best wishes to you all
Mrs. Mooney and all the staff
