April 2010 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

At last we can see signs of spring in the school grounds. Hopefully we can look forward to some warmer weather during the Easter break.

The entries for the Easter competitions were of a very high standard as usual and it was very difficult to judge who the prize winners should be. Thank you for your help and support getting the hats, gardens & eggs into school safely.

Once again the staff generously donated Easter eggs for the children?s Easter egg raffle. This is always a very enjoyable assembly and it generates lots of excitement as staff pick the winning tickets.

March has been a busy month for everyone. It was good to see so many visitors at the Year 1 Grandparents? assembly. They really involved themselves in the work with the children and made some lovely comments to the staff afterwards. They obviously enjoyed themselves and we are pleased that it was such a successful afternoon.

The children have enjoyed a variety of workshops recently, including African Dancing, Great Fire of London workshops, a visit from the Science Museum and the Healthy Eating sessions led by Mrs Sainsbury. It is always good to see so many parents helping & joining in with these events.

The ladies of the PTA have worked really hard this term. The Ladies Pamper night was enjoyed by everyone who attended and was very successful.

Some parents have raised with us the subject of the safety of the children before and after school. There have been some incidents out on the school fields & playground regarding the behaviour of some pupils towards each other.

The behaviour of every child before and after school is always the responsibility of whoever brings or collects those pupils. We strongly advise that you keep your children with you at all times or at least within sight of where you are standing, especially if you are waiting for siblings to come out of the junior school. It has been brought to our attention that parents are allowing and even helping pupils over the locked gate & fence that surrounds the new climbing frame on the school field. We ask that you do not do this for obvious reasons of pupil safety if left unsupervised.

The Scholastic Book Fair was very successful and raised £375 for the school which Mrs McVie used to buy new books for the library. A big thank you to everyone who came and bought books and helped us to do so well.

A few reminders
Please make sure that the children are bringing a coat to school with them ? there can still be a cold wind blowing across the playground at this time of year.

We do like to encourage the children to bring water into school to drink in the classroom. Water bottles are on sale in the school office and they cost £1.20.

By this stage in the year names on coats, PE kits and other items can have worn away. Please check to ensure that everything is clearly named for the beginning of the summer term.

After the Easter break the Year 2 children will be starting their SATs . We do ask that children arrive promptly ready to do their best. The tasks and assessments are conducted over the 6 week period of this half term and it is important that the children are in school daily in order that they complete everything by the end of term. Please contact the school office if your child is going to be out for any reason so that staff can rearrange what they are doing if necessary.

We hope you all enjoy a lovely Easter break.
Mrs. Mooney and all the staff
