June 2008 Newsletter
Dear Parents,
The time has come to say good bye to Miss Wannenburg. We are very grateful to her for all the hard work she has done with the children in Year 1. However, we are also very pleased to welcome back Mrs Bassi after her maternity leave.
The PTA has a very busy half term over the next few weeks. Mr Bounce is on 18th June and the Fun afternoon is on Monday 21st July. If you have time to help with either event please come and see Mrs Bailey in the school office or come to our next meeting on 9th June. We would really appreciate any help that you can offer us. They ran a very successful cake stall at the end of last half term and raised approximately £200.
Mrs May was overwhelmed by the response to the Mr Men Appeal for children with leukaemia which she organises annually. The children raised over £1200 with more than £600 going to the charity and the rest going to the school. This was an amazing result. Mrs. May will be giving out the childrens’ prizes in school this half term.
Mrs Kemp is very pleased to report that we have achieved the Silver Eco Award. We have already started working towards the Eco Green Flag, the final level in being recognised as a fully fledged eco school. Well done to all the committee, children & adults, for all their hard work in making this possible.
Mrs Kemp is still collecting mobile phones which we can send off for a cash reward. If you have any old ones that you or your family no longer use, please remove the sim card and send them into school. Mrs Kemp also has envelopes for parents to send off printer cartridges to Tescos. We continue to collect all types and sizes of printer cartridges for recycling in school. Please bring them to the school office.
Tom Davies, our school photographer retired last year and we have had to try and find a replacement service which was as good as the one he offered for so many years. This year we have tried two new companies. One firm did the class photos and another firm did the individual photos. Mrs May would like to hear from you if you have any comment to make on the quality of the service that either of these firms provided, as we will have to choose which company to book very shortly for next year. Mrs May is concerned that the individual photos, in particular, were not as popular as usual and would appreciate knowing if there was a reason for this. From the next academic year we will be having the individual photos taken in the Autumn term and the class photos will be taken in the Summer term.
In the last newsletter we said that you were very welcome to come to school at lunchtime and reapply suncream to your child. If you wish to do this can you please come at 12.00 to the school office. The children cannot be taken out of lessons but are free to come straight round at 12.00 when the bell goes without office staff or midday assistants having to go and look for them.
For the safety of the children and staff, under no circumstances, should parents go directly onto the school playground while the children are out to play.
Can we remind parents that if you accompany your child to school in a taxi that the driver should not bring you onto the school grounds. The only taxis that are allowed through the barrier are those carrying unaccompanied children.
The Essex Library service has informed us that there will be a reading scheme for the children to take part in during the summer holidays. It is called the Global backpacker and there will be details in the local library in Sun Street. We look forward to giving out lots of certificates in the Autumn term to all those children who take part.
We have been made aware by some concerned parents that the playgrounds are becoming dangerous places to wait in the morning, particularly because scooters and balls are being used irresponsibly by some children and with out parental supervision. Scooters should not be ridden on the school grounds and balls should not be used where people are waiting with buggies and young children. Children are the responsibility of parents before 9.00 so please keep them safely with you, where you can see them, at all times.
This is the start of a very busy half term. There are lots of events for you to attend and we hope to see you at as many of them as possible. Please read the diary dates carefully so that you don’t miss anything
