January 2008 Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to you all. We hope you all had a very enjoyable holiday.

We are pleased to announce the safe arrival of Mrs. Bassi’s baby daughter, Reena. She brought her in to visit us at the end of term and both mum and baby are looking very well.

Activemark
We are very pleased to announce that we have been awarded the national Activemark in recognition of the high standard of PE & movement we teach the children in school. Mrs. Bassi led us through the complex process in order to achieve this prestigious award.

Unfortunately the children seem to be quite unwell with the usual coughs & colds at this time of the year. Can we remind you to ring and inform the school before 9.30 if your child is going to be absent.

We have received the items that we ordered through the Tesco computer scheme. Thank you to everyone who sent in vouchers. Among other things, we have 3 hand held video cameras, 6 bee-bot robots & some sensory kits. All the children will benefit from using these new resources.

Please remember that if you are on supplementary benefits you may be entitled to free school meals. Please come and see Mrs Horncastle in the school office if you would like any further information.

At this time of year we can expect cold, unpleasant weather and the children should be coming to school adequately clothed to keep them warm and well protected outside at morning play and lunchtime. If your child is wearing a hat, gloves and scarf in addition to their usual clothing please make sure that you name these items. Already our lost property box is starting to fill up with items that have no names and therefore cannot be returned to their owners.

Holidays in school time
We would obviously prefer that your child is not taken out of school during term time. This is particularly important if an individual child’s overall school attendance is less than 95%. However, if you have to take a holiday in school time, you can help us and your child by not planning your holidays to coincide with the beginning of the new school year in September 2008. It is very important for the successful transition of your child into their new class that they are in school at this time. Also, if your child is in Year 2 this year, they will be doing SATs tests throughout the first half of the Summer Term and should not be taken out of school throughout that period. Please help us to teach your child to the best of their ability by allowing them to attend school on a regular basis and arriving at the start of the school day punctually at 9.00a.m.

School Trips & Workshops
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supported the children and staff last year by allowing them to enjoy a wider curriculum as a result of their financial contributions and help with our school trips and in-school workshops. School trips and workshops can inspire and motivate pupils in a way that cannot always be achieved in the classroom and they are an important addition to the school curriculum. However the cost of these trips and workshops, although subsidised by the school, cannot be afforded without additional financial support through fundraising activities and parental contributions. Indeed, these activities would not be organised by staff without additional finance. With the thoughtfulness and generosity of parents helping in this way and valuing the importance of such activities, we will be able to continue to finance the wide variety of additional opportunities that we offer all pupils in the school. Thank you all very much. We hope that you will continue to support us in this way through 2008.

With best wishes from
Mrs. Mooney and all the staff
